People tend to react in different ways when we have problems. Some throw things and insult, others resort to yelling, and there are also those who cry. All these acts are not carried out deliberately; What's more, they are natural reactions that we use to release tension after a problem or frustration. The truth is that after this one definitely feels very light because even if the problem has not been solved, it is freed from the emotional pressure that it caused.

In my case, I very often resort to crying when I feel exasperated, angry, or very sad about something. For me, crying is perhaps the most liberating act I can resort to when life's trials overwhelm me. However, there are people who, no matter how much they want to cry to free themselves, cannot.

Why are there people who cannot cry?

Not being able to cry when you feel the need to do so causes a lot of discomforts. But this does not happen of its own accord. The reasons can be both physiological and psychological, so before arguing that someone does not cry because they are insensitive or repressed, it is best to discover the reason why someone cannot cry.

Physiological reasons

Sjögren 's disease (autoimmune) very rare that affects the exocrine glands. These glands are responsible for the production of fluids and secretions such as saliva, tears, vaginal fluid, and the mucous membranes of the respiratory system.

What happens is that by not producing liquids, because the person's body cannot perform any of the aforementioned functions.

Now, diseases such as Lupus or rheumatoid arthritis can also make the body stop secreting fluids, and that with this, people who suffer from them cannot cry.

Psychological reasons

Once the idea of autoimmune disease has been discarded, it is appropriate to know if the reasons why you cannot cry are due to a psychological situation.

One important thing to know is that tears are not just "saltwater." Tears are loaded with hormones that the body secretes in times of stress or pain to help you release emotional tension, so crying is not a reflex action, but something with a lot of sense.

Well, with the above in mind, when a person cannot cry due to effects of psychological origin, this is usually related to poor management of emotions. However, it can also be due to pathological grief that usually happens when the person cannot cry when going through grief, and this lasts a long time; or when a melancholic depression is experienced.

Pathological grief

Basically what happens is that the person does not react as he should to the loss of a person or a difficult situation. The person denies the situation and thereby does not process the pain, anguish, and anxiety; This can last for years.

Melancholic depression

Something interesting about this disorder is that many people resort to seeking therapy because they not only argue that they cannot cry; they point out that they can't feel anything. They are in such a hopeless situation that they are unable to feel joy or sadness; what's more, nothing attracts their interest or makes them want to continue living.

It is a major depressive disorder that affects life in general of the person who suffers from it. Processes such as feeding, crying or sleeping are difficult to achieve due to lack of interest. The person also feels that life is not worth it.

What can you do when you cannot cry because of psychological problems?

Once the reasons why a person cannot cry is discovered, treatment can also be achieved to help solve the problem.

The options will be:

Talk to a trusted person

This perhaps seems like something simpler to do. However, the person you should turn to must be someone willing to listen, to give you feedback, who does not judge your pain. By this person, you should feel supported, understood, and in total trust so that you can free yourself and resolve your conflicts even if they are from yesteryear.

Writing as therapy

Writing is liberating. There are people who deal with their problems by writing. What they do is pour over diaries or entire notebooks, each and every situation that is difficult for them to deal with. They cannot cry but they look for a way to get rid of their grief, anger, or suffering by writing. Here it does not matter the calligraphy, grammar, or spelling, the person only writes to free himself and not repress pain.

Introspection to empty the mind

It consists of questioning the reason why you feel sad or make you feel unwell. It is a process of personal introspection where the person must discover the source of their pain and, recognizing it, can process it and take steps to process it and thus achieve control over their life.

Review beliefs imposed in childhood

There are people who cannot cry because since they were little they were taught things like: "crying is for girls", "crying is for the weak", "tears do not solve anything." When you grow up with this in your head, it is natural that the person does not cry and accumulates a lot of pain.

The person must become aware and restructure the beliefs imposed by others so that they can resolve them and thus face pain as they have never done before.

As you can see, the reasons why you cannot work out your pain like other people can be due to multiple causes. Seek help so that you can solve your conflicts and remember: crying is not weak, crying makes you a strong person.
